Abstract

The chapter delves into the significance of phase balance in duplex stainless steel (DSS) welds, particularly focusing on the impact of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) and nitrogen addition in shielding gas during gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). It discusses the metallurgical evolution of welded DSS, the role of nitrogen in stabilizing austenite, and the effects of PWHT on microstructure and mechanical properties. The study highlights the importance of balanced austenite and ferrite phases for optimal performance, and presents novel findings on the use of nitrogen and PWHT to achieve this balance. The research provides valuable insights for professionals aiming to enhance the mechanical and corrosion-resistant characteristics of DSS welds.
