Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive genome-wide analysis of the Eceriferum (CER) gene family in strawberry (Fragaria vesca), focusing on their role in stress-responsive expression and cuticular wax biosynthesis. The research identifies 22 FvCER genes and analyzes their physicochemical properties, chromosomal localization, evolutionary relationships, conserved motifs, gene structures, protein-protein interactions, cis-regulatory elements, and synteny. The expression profiles of these genes are examined across 42 different plant tissues and two fruit developmental stages, revealing diverse FPKM expression patterns. Notably, the study highlights the significant upregulation of specific FvCER genes under drought conditions and in response to biotic stress, such as viroid infection. The findings suggest that FvCER genes play crucial roles in enhancing strawberry fruit quality and extending shelf-life by regulating cuticular wax biosynthesis and stress tolerance mechanisms. This research provides a foundation for future functional characterization of FvCER genes and offers valuable insights for genetic improvement in strawberry breeding programs.
