Abstract

Geodynamik ist ein neuer Zweig der Geophysik, der versucht, geologische Prozesse mithilfe von Mechanik zu erklären. Dabei kommen im Wesentlichen die Boden- und Felsmechanik infrage. Hier wird auf die Rolle der Zeit in der Rheologie eingegangen, ferner wird erklärt, warum man mit Modellversuchen mit Sand geologische Prozesse wie Auffaltung simulieren kann. Es wird gezeigt, dass die geotechnische Methode der Starrkörperbruchmechanismen sich auf die Plattentektonik anwenden lässt, und die Verwandtschaft von Scherfugen und Verwerfungen wird erläutert. Ferner wird das quantitative Modell von Culling für Erosion und Abtragung vorgestellt.
