Abstract

The study focuses on the geological, geomechanical, and geochemical analysis of claystone from the Sebamban Syncline in the Warukin Formation. The analysis reveals that the claystone is primarily composed of clay-sized quartz minerals, with small amounts of kaolinite and illite, and no montmorillonite. The provenance of the claystone is determined to be from recycled orogen, with geochemical analysis confirming the absence of magnesium, which is associated with basaltic rocks. The geomechanical properties of the claystone are also examined, showing relatively low strength and cohesion. This study provides valuable insights for geological engineering and challenges previous assumptions about the claystone's composition.
