Abstract

The chapter delves into the complex geopolitics of the South China Sea, where territorial disputes and energy resources intersect. It highlights the shift from traditional energy sources to renewable energy, particularly offshore wind, and the potential this transition holds for regional stability and sustainable development. The focus on sustainability and the Ocean-Climate nexus underscores the importance of cooperation among littoral nations to address energy security and climate change. The chapter also discusses the strategic role of China in shaping regional energy policies and the counter-strategies adopted by countries like Vietnam and India to balance power dynamics. The potential of offshore renewable energy to transform the region's energy landscape and the challenges it faces are explored in detail, making this chapter a vital read for understanding the future of the South China Sea.
