Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricate dynamics of riverbank erosion along the Jamuna River in Shahjadpur Upazila, Sirajganj District, Bangladesh, utilizing advanced geospatial techniques. It provides a detailed analysis of historical erosion patterns from 1988 to 2023, revealing significant temporal variations influenced by both natural processes and human activities. The study identifies critical erosion risk zones, categorized into Low, Moderate, High, and Very High, each characterized by distinct factors such as proximity to the river, soil stability, slope steepness, and human interventions. The chapter highlights the importance of understanding these dynamics for effective risk management and mitigation strategies. It employs sophisticated tools like satellite imagery, GIS, and numerical models to map and monitor erosion, offering a comprehensive view of the erosion landscape. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions, including soil stabilization, vegetation management, and regulated human activities, to mitigate future erosion risks. The research also emphasizes the significance of long-term monitoring and predictive modeling to anticipate and adapt to future trends in erosion, providing a foundation for developing more effective and sustainable erosion control measures.
