Abstract

This chapter explores the application of Fuzzy-FMEA in managing geotechnical risks in pipe-jacking construction, focusing on the Yen Xa Sewerage System Project in Hanoi, Vietnam. It highlights the advantages of pipe-jacking over traditional methods, such as minimal traffic disruption and improved construction efficiency, while addressing significant risks like groundwater flooding and surface settlement. The study identifies 29 risks, including soft soil, pipe jamming, and ground settlement, and uses Fuzzy-FMEA to prioritize and mitigate these risks. The Fuzzy-FMEA method is shown to be superior to traditional FMEA, providing a more accurate risk assessment and supporting effective risk management. The chapter concludes that Fuzzy-FMEA is a robust tool for managing geotechnical risks in urban pipe-jacking projects, particularly in challenging environments near rivers and railway bridge pillars.
