Zusammenfassung

Wasserstoff wurde schon vom Schweizer Naturforscher Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, bekannt als Paracelsus (1493–1541), aus der Reaktion von Metallen und Säure hergestellt und beschrieben, allerdings erkannte er Wasserstoff nicht als eigenes Element. Die Bezeichnung „Gas“ geht auf den von Paracelsus benutzten Begriff „Chaos“ für die schäumenden Produkte seiner Versuche zurück.
