Abstract

The article investigates the effect of crosslinker type on the microstructure of carboxymethyl cellulose-chitosan composite hydrogels. It highlights the importance of selecting non-toxic crosslinkers for sustainable hydrogels and discusses how crosslinker choice influences hydrogel properties such as swelling, water absorbency, and gel fraction. The study compares the performance of hydrogels crosslinked with organic acids and zinc ions, providing insights into the relationship between crosslinker functionality and hydrogel microstructure. The results show that the choice of crosslinker significantly affects the hydrogel's crosslinking density, mesh size, and overall stability. This research contributes to the development of novel, cost-effective, and safe hydrogel matrices for various applications, including wearable energy materials and antimicrobial textiles.
