Abstract

The 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake in Indonesia resulted in significant human fatalities and building collapses, particularly in the Pleret Sub-District. This study investigates the ground motions, site amplification, and building damage at near-source locations of the earthquake. It highlights the importance of site-specific factors such as soil properties and depth, which influence site amplification and seismic hazards. The research also emphasizes the role of directivity and fling effects in near-field earthquakes, which can significantly impact building damage. The findings provide valuable insights for seismic hazard assessment and risk mitigation strategies in earthquake-prone regions.
