Abstract
This chapter serves as a 101 guide to get you up and running with basic data-intensive operations using Hadoop and Hortonworks Sandbox in less than one hour. I have made a small sample of a dataset available so that you can efficiently run the examples without a bigger cluster. I want to show that you can use all of the basic technologies almost immediately. Presented examples are purposefully very simple to provide you with a basic working skeleton application that will reduce entrance barriers for more advanced topics. You will explore these topics in later chapters that will be based on the code and dataset you will become familiar with right now.
