Abstract

The rapid increase in population has led to intensive agriculture, causing environmental concerns due to the use of chemical fertilizers. This article presents a high-quality, low-cost activated carbon/chitosan biocomposite for effective nitrate ion removal from water. The study includes batch adsorption experiments, isotherm and kinetic studies, and desorption studies to evaluate the biocomposite's performance. The biocomposite showed superior adsorption capacity compared to activated carbon alone, highlighting the synergistic effects of the combined materials. The research also includes a cost-effectiveness analysis, demonstrating the potential for large-scale application of this biocomposite in water treatment.
