Abstract

This article introduces a highly secure authentication and key agreement protocol for the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), addressing the challenges of privacy and security in rapidly evolving vehicular networks. Leveraging certificateless cryptography, the proposed scheme ensures anonymity and privacy while efficiently managing data exchange between vehicles and fog servers. The study compares the proposed method with existing protocols, highlighting its strengths in security properties such as perfect forward secrecy, no key escrow, and resistance to replay attacks. The authors validate the protocol through formal security analysis and automated software verification using ProVerif, demonstrating its robustness against various attacks. Additionally, the article includes a detailed performance evaluation, showcasing the computational and communication efficiency of the proposed scheme. This work contributes to the advancement of secure IoV deployments in the face of emerging cybersecurity threats.
