Holistically Optimized 800-V Hybrid Powertrain

The article presents the DE4LoRa research project, which focuses on developing a highly integrated hybrid powertrain based on an 800-V system. This powertrain includes a battery, electric motors, a monovalent natural gas combustion engine, and an innovative thermal management system. The project aims to holistically optimize environmental impact, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, with a particular emphasis on reducing CO2 emissions compared to purely electric drives. The article highlights the use of CNG, which offers advantages in energy density and lower CO2 emissions. Additionally, it discusses the innovative thermal management system that enhances overall vehicle efficiency, especially in low ambient temperatures. The development methodology incorporates Hardware-in-the-Loop simulations to optimize the operating strategy and exhaust gas aftertreatment, ensuring compliance with future Euro-7 regulations. The DE4LoRa concept is designed to meet the specific mobility needs of the compact car segment in Germany, offering a smaller battery for everyday use while maintaining long-distance capability.
