2. How Employees Are Impacted

The 24/7 world of work is having a significant impact on employees with disastrous consequences for individuals and the organizations that employ them. This chapter explores each of the aspects that are often dehumanizing work and storing up problems that need to be addressed, yet mostly ignored—the curse that is email overload; the rise of stress and depression among employees; the impact of the lack of engagement on employees and the organization; the rise and impact of ‘gig’ workers and the myth that is multi-tasking. Leaders need to recognize the impact that digital overload is having on their employees.
