Abstract

This chapter delves into the design, operation, and simulation of a tri-hybrid EV charging system that integrates solar power, wind power, battery backup, and grid support. It highlights recent advancements in adaptive control methods, such as the improved complex coefficient filter-based phase-locked loop (ICCF-PLL) and intelligent generalized maximum versoria criterion filtering (IGMVCF), which enhance voltage and frequency regulation. The chapter also emphasizes the use of bidirectional DC–DC converters for efficient power flow management and introduces multiport battery charging and automated battery swapping concepts. Experimental validations demonstrate compliance with IEEE standards, ensuring low total harmonic distortion (THD) and high power quality (PQ). The tri-hybrid model discussed utilizes solar energy during daylight, wind energy at night or breezy conditions, and grid power when renewable sources are insufficient, ensuring uninterrupted charging capability. Key components include solar panels, wind turbines, and a battery storage system, each contributing to a sustainable and robust microgrid system suitable for remote and islanded applications.
