Abstract

This chapter delves into the integration of fuel cells with hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), highlighting their role in sustainable transportation. It explores various hybrid architectures, including series, parallel, and series-parallel configurations, and discusses the advantages of fuel cells in terms of efficiency, emissions, and energy management. The text also examines real-world applications and case studies, such as the use of fuel cells in airports and commercial fleets. Additionally, it compares different energy management strategies, such as Model Predictive Control and Pontryagin’s Minimum Principle, and their impact on hydrogen consumption and system longevity.
