Abstract

Existing standard measurement techniques in the area of oil hygrometry are analyzed with respect to interferences. Ways of estimating the accuracy of these methods are examined. The need for a new generation of reference materials and for measurement techniques that take the various interferences into account by methods accessible to ordinary technical staff are pointed out.

Footnotes
1
Various terms are encountered in the literature. mixing, homogenization, dispersion, etc.

2
A mixer shaft rotation speed of 3000 rpm and a two-bladed head ensures that the active element of the mixer interacts with the sample at a rate on the order of 100 Hz. A higher rate is achieved in dispersers at 300–1200 Hz. Ultrasound offers some promise, but it involves significant and complicated physical and chemical effects in water-oil emulsions because of varying force fields.
