Abstract

This study identifies Aspergillus terreus as the causative agent of sunken leaf spot disease in dandelion plants (Taraxacum officinale) in the Kashmir Valley, India. The research involves detailed morphological and molecular characterization of the pathogen, including sequencing of the ITS region for accurate identification. Pathogenicity tests confirm the disease-causing ability of Aspergillus terreus, with symptoms progressing from small yellow spots to leaf blight. The study also evaluates the biocontrol potential of three Trichoderma species—Trichoderma longibrachiatum, Trichoderma asperellum, and Trichoderma viride—against Aspergillus terreus. Among these, Trichoderma longibrachiatum shows the highest mycelial inhibition, making it a promising candidate for eco-friendly disease management strategies. The findings highlight the need for effective control measures to mitigate the impact of this pathogen on dandelion plants in the region.
