Abstract

Product design undergoes numerous steps by focusing on the customer requirement. Same time user requirements have to be imbibed in the design phase itself. For the same, one of the best methods to understand product in terms of cost and functionality is Value engineering. It gives the idea of developing either combining or subtracting or entirely developing new product itself. Along with this if design elements brought in to design, the design becomes creative and innovative. This paper integrates the Value engineering and design elements priorities while in design stage itself. It has been demonstrated with the help of a case study. An innovative product such as ear wax remover has been chosen, and series of creative techniques have been incorporated to understand product in better way. Product task process flow diagram, fish bone diagram to identify any problem in the products, followed with value engineering is applied. Also engineering analysis conducted which will help in change of materials, size, and shape. While in improving the design, the effect of design elements has been brought in. The aim of this study is to enhance the functionality of the product by using the various creative technique and usability testing followed with inclusion of design elements.
