Abstract

This chapter explores the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and evolutionary algorithms to optimize demolition scheduling in construction projects. The study focuses on using the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) and Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) data to create a precedence matrix that guides the allocation of labor teams and the sequencing of demolition tasks. The research addresses the challenges of coordinating labor teams and managing variables like costs and time, offering a novel approach to streamline the demolition process. A case study involving a 12-story residential building demonstrates the practical application of this method, showcasing the generation of Pareto-optimal solutions that balance cost and time. The study concludes that this integrated approach can significantly enhance the efficiency and accuracy of demolition scheduling, providing a robust tool for construction professionals.
