Abstract

This chapter delves into the thermal conductivity of concrete, a critical factor for energy-efficient and high-temperature applications. It examines how different types of coarse aggregates, such as quartz, andesite, expanded glass, expanded clay, and recycled crushed clay bricks, affect the thermal performance of concrete. The study reveals that quartz and andesite aggregates exhibit higher thermal conductivity, making them suitable for applications requiring efficient heat transfer. Conversely, expanded glass and expanded clay aggregates offer superior insulation properties, ideal for energy-efficient building designs. The research also highlights the reduction in thermal conductivity with increasing temperature, emphasizing the importance of careful material selection. By analyzing the thermal behavior of concrete mixtures at ambient and elevated temperatures, this study provides valuable insights for optimizing concrete for specific applications, contributing to improved building energy efficiency and thermal comfort.
