Abstract

The study investigates the impact of COVID-19 on Indian politics by analyzing the Twitter interactions and sentiments of political leaders. It focuses on three key topics: preventive measures, lockdowns, and vaccinations. The authors use social network analysis to examine the communication patterns and polarization among politicians during these discussions. They identify distinct communities and analyze the sentiments within these networks. The study finds that mention networks show higher cross-party interactions, while retweet networks are more polarized. Additionally, sentiments vary significantly across topics and political parties, with positive sentiments predominantly observed for preventive measures and vaccinations, and more negative sentiments for lockdowns. The research highlights the importance of understanding political communication and sentiment during crises to inform policy decisions.
