Abstract

This chapter delves into the intricate relationship between mobile phone use, travel behavior, and perceived crash risk among two-wheeler riders. Through a mixed-methods approach, the study investigates how mobile activities such as calling, texting, and using social media impact driving habits and safety perceptions. The research highlights the prevalence of risky behaviors like speeding, disregarding traffic rules, and driving under stress, which are exacerbated by mobile phone distractions. The study employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze the data collected from urban centers in Gujarat, revealing significant correlations between mobile use, traffic rule violations, and crash risk perceptions. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions, including educational campaigns, automated enforcement, and technological solutions to mitigate the risks associated with mobile phone use while riding. The chapter concludes with policy recommendations aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing crash risks for two-wheeler riders.
