Abstract

The article delves into the consequences of the Pile–Beam–Arch (PBA) method for enlarging subway tunnels, focusing on ground movements and building damage. It discusses the advantages of the PBA method over traditional methods and the significant risks it poses to adjacent structures. The study utilizes a three-dimensional numerical model to analyze vertical and horizontal displacements of the ground during the enlargement process. The research highlights the potential for severe building damage due to differential settlement and angular distortion, emphasizing the need for careful planning and monitoring during construction. The article also presents a sensitivity analysis of the impact zone based on the distance from the tunnel, providing valuable insights for future projects.
