Abstract

The chapter delves into the impact of plastic waste on the 3D consolidation characteristics of sandy-silt with clay soil, focusing on the use of waste plastic fibres as a reinforcing element. The study investigates how different sizes and percentages of plastic strips affect the maximum dry density, optimum moisture content, compression index, and coefficient of consolidation of the soil. Through a series of laboratory tests, the research demonstrates that the inclusion of waste plastic fibres can significantly reduce soil settlement and enhance the rate of consolidation. The findings suggest that waste plastic fibres can serve as an effective and sustainable alternative to traditional soil reinforcement methods, contributing to the well-being of the environment and supporting the construction industry's need for economical and eco-friendly materials.
