Abstract

The distribution system has two challenging problems; voltage regulation and line loss reduction. This paper presents a Sen Transformer (ST) in the distribution network to achieve line loss reduction with improved node voltages. By injecting virtual impedance or a compensation voltage into the line, the ST can achieve objectives. The ST operates as an impedance regulator or a series voltage regulator in the loop distribution network to address line loss reduction with improved node voltages in the distribution system. The voltages of the loop distribution network are kept within the permissible limits of the network by using the ST. Validation of the work has been represented by the hardware model of the ST, and the loop distribution network forms the experimental set-up. Two cases are considered in this paper for the experimental set-up. In the first case, ST is used only for line loss reduction. In the second case, ST is utilised for the line loss reduction with improved node voltages. The results of each configuration are obtained and compared to mention the effectiveness of ST.
