Abstract

Leaf springs, critical components in commercial vehicle suspension systems, often face durability challenges due to operational impacts and fatigue. This chapter delves into a groundbreaking approach to enhance leaf spring longevity through the addition of chamber clearance, a modification that addresses common failure points and extends the component's lifespan. The research employs a meticulous methodology, including simulation, component testing, and on-road validation, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the design. Key findings reveal a significant increase in fatigue life, from 180,000 cycles to 1 million cycles, without compromising driving comfort. The chapter presents detailed analyses, including static and fatigue simulations, dynamic testing, and modal analysis, to provide a holistic understanding of the design's impact. By comparing the results with ISO 2631 standards, the study ensures that the modifications meet industry benchmarks for comfort and durability. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the potential for further exploration and refinement, opening avenues for deeper investigation into durability engineering solutions.
