Abstract

The article delves into the enhancement of gas-dynamic and thermal modes in the external heating of sintering mixture layers. It begins by outlining the developed heating mode, which includes preheating, ignition, and additional heating stages. The significance of these stages is underscored by their impact on preventing thermal shock, excessive moistening, and layer shrinkage. Experimental studies conducted in a quartz transparent pot reveal the effects of charge layer shrinkage during different heating phases. The results demonstrate that preheating the charge to the dew point temperature can significantly reduce shrinkage. The article also discusses practical solutions such as high-quality pelletization, heating with hot return, steaming in nodulizing drums, and introducing lime into the charge. Furthermore, the design and implementation of a three-section furnace at Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works are highlighted, showcasing innovative solutions for external heating. The article concludes with an evaluation of the charge layer shrinkage and the rationality of dismantling the hot air enclosure, emphasizing the technological advancements achieved.
