th -century British businessman who traveled frequently, he suffered from an unfortunate complaint: seasickness. Therefore, he invented a ship that could counteract the rolling motion of the sea. The 107-m-long SS Bessemer was first launched in 1875 and had a passenger cabin suspended on gimbals in the ship's hull.
