Abstract

The article explores the advancements in Digital Volume Correlation (DVC) for measuring 3D kinematics in materials using X-Ray Computed Tomography (CT). It introduces a novel rotational motion method for evaluating DVC performance, highlighting its advantages over traditional translation methods. The study compares the rotational method with repeat scan and rigid body translation approaches, demonstrating its effectiveness in assessing both interpolation and random errors. The research also discusses the impact of image quality on DVC measurements and the importance of accurately estimating errors prior to experiments. The article concludes by emphasizing the practical benefits of the rotational method in industrial contexts.
