Abstract

The study investigates the chemical changes in thermally compressed wood using 2D NMR technology, focusing on the effects of heat treatment on the macromolecular structure of wood cell walls. It delves into the modifications of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, revealing how heat treatment impacts their chemical bonds and structures. The research highlights the significant degradation of hemicellulose and the cleavage of specific lignin linkages, providing valuable insights into the thermal stability and structural alterations of wood components. The use of 2D NMR offers a non-destructive method to analyze these complex changes, contributing to the optimization of heat-treated wood for specific applications.
