Since independence the Indian Government has regulated the technology acquisition activities of firms through a variety of policy instruments. On the whole, these policies have been aimed at (a) control of technologies entering the country through foreign collaboration and (b) promotion and protection of locally available technologies, indigenously developed or previously imported.
