Zusammenfassung

Indien gilt im 21. Jahrhundert als ein politisch und wirtschaftlich aufstrebender Machtfaktor auf internationaler Bühne. Im politischen Bereich gilt der indische Staat, der gemeinsam mit dem pakistanischen 1947 aus der „Erbmasse“ Britisch-Indiens gegründet wurde, als die größte Demokratie der Welt. Indien ist gemäß seiner Verfassung eine souveräne, sozialistische, säkulare Republik mit einem parlamentarischen Regierungssystem und beheimatet ein Milliardenvolk, das schätzungsweise bereits in wenigen Jahren größer sein wird als das chinesische.

Nachdem sich das Wachstum 2012 unerwartet auf 5,4 % eintrübte und 2013 zudem von starken Turbulenzen und Abwertungsbewegungen der Indischen Rupie (INR) belastet wurde, stabilisierte sich das Wachstum seit 2013 und legte auf zuletzt 6,7 % (2017/2018) zu, womit es 2019 bereits die Wirtschaftsleistung Großbritanniens übertreffen könnte.
