Abstract

This chapter delves into the influence of incinerated biomedical waste ash (IBMWA) on the characterization of cement-treated road bases, offering a sustainable solution to the environmental concerns associated with traditional cement production. The study explores the physical and chemical properties of IBMWA, highlighting its potential as a supplementary cementitious material. Key findings include the impact of IBMWA on the compaction characteristics, unconfined compressive strength, and indirect tensile strength of cement-treated road bases. The research also evaluates the durability of these bases through wetting-drying cycles and assesses the environmental impact through heavy metal leaching tests and carbon footprint calculations. The results demonstrate that partial replacement of ordinary Portland cement with IBMWA can achieve comparable strength and durability while significantly reducing carbon emissions. This innovative approach not only addresses the growing issue of biomedical waste management but also provides a greener alternative for road construction, making it a crucial read for professionals seeking sustainable and efficient construction materials.
