Abstract

The study investigates the influence of starch type on the sol-gel synthesis of ZnO nanopowders, using corn and potato starch as chelating agents. The research reveals that the type of starch significantly affects the crystallite size and optical properties of the resulting ZnO. ZnO synthesized with corn starch exhibits larger crystallites and a smaller band gap compared to that synthesized with potato starch. Additionally, the optical properties, such as photoluminescence, are influenced by the crystallite size, with corn starch leading to lower defect densities. The findings highlight the potential of using natural, low-cost starches for the synthesis of ZnO nanopowders with tailored properties, opening avenues for cost-effective and sustainable nanomaterial production.
