Abstract

This article delves into the intricate world of geomaterial behavior under stress, focusing on the time-dependent deformations that precede failure. Through a series of laboratory tests on artificial rock materials, the study examines the effects of constant and dynamic loading conditions on the failure behaviors of landslide materials. The research identifies three distinct creep phases—primary, secondary, and tertiary—and explores how these phases are influenced by varying stress levels and loading conditions. A key finding is the trimodal behavior of strain rates, which accelerates before the stress drop, indicating the onset of failure. The study also compares the failure patterns under constant and cyclic loading, revealing that higher stress levels shorten the duration of the stable secondary phase. The article concludes with a discussion on the limitations of traditional failure prediction methods and the need for further research incorporating confining pressure to better understand real-world geological conditions. This comprehensive analysis provides valuable insights into the failure mechanisms of geomaterials, offering a deeper understanding of landslide prediction and prevention.
