Information Security and Privacy Challenges Related to Personal eHealth Services - A Literature Review

The chapter delves into the intricate challenges of information security and privacy in the context of personal eHealth services (PeHS), such as Patient Accessible Electronic Health Records (PAEHR). It highlights the trade-offs between accessibility and security, the regulatory compliance issues, and the technological vulnerabilities that arise from the digital transformation in healthcare. The systematic literature review identifies eight key themes, including access control, regulatory compliance, user management, technological challenges, threats, security maturity, data management, interconnectivity, and the need for comprehensive governance. The study underscores the urgent need for improved information security practices and policies to protect patient data and ensure the successful implementation of PeHS. By addressing these challenges, the chapter offers valuable insights for healthcare professionals, IT specialists, and cybersecurity experts aiming to enhance the security and privacy of digital healthcare services.
