Abstract

The chapter delves into the extensive digitalization of corporate sectors in Africa, highlighting the vulnerabilities of African businesses to cyberattacks. It focuses on the South African retail sector, which is increasingly targeted due to its digital footprint and financial services offerings. The study applies Behavioural Threshold Analysis (BTA) to evaluate and predict information security group behaviour, using a survey-based methodology. The research identifies low thresholds for participation in negative security behaviours and high thresholds for positive behaviours, emphasizing the influence of peer behaviour on security practices. The findings suggest that targeted training and clear incident reporting procedures are crucial to enhancing security awareness and resilience within organisations.
