Mercedes-Benz and Google are entering into a strategic partnership. The automaker plans to integrate vehicle-related geodata and route planning functions from Google Maps into its own navigation system.

The cooperation gives Mercedes-Benz access to Google's geospatial offering. Among other things, detailed information about places, real-time and predictive traffic information as well as automatic rerouting are to be integrated into the upcoming Mercedes-Benz operating system MB.OS. The new navigation system is expected to convince in terms of user-friendliness and graphic display. Google Maps will also enable the automaker to further improve its assisted driving functions, such as automatic speed adjustments before intersections, traffic circles or curves.

Initially, all MBUX Generation 2020 (NTG7) vehicles with navigation will have access to Google's "Place Details" information, which are details on more than 200 million businesses and places around the world, including business hours, photos, ratings, and reviews. In addition, access to the YouTube app will also be possible via the infotainment system in the future. The collaboration is also expected to extend to the Google Cloud, artificial intelligence, data processing and open cloud infrastructure solutions. For example, Mercedes-Benz intends to use Google Cloud’s AI and machine learning capabilities for vehicle development or to analyze fleet data.
