Abstract

This chapter delves into the transformative power of specialized division of labor and knowledge spillovers in Shenzhen's industrial landscape, with a particular emphasis on the digital technology sector. The research hypothesis that specialized division of labor and clustered supply chains drive innovation-driven transformation is explored through empirical evidence from Shenzhen's ongoing transformation practices. The chapter highlights the characteristics of Shenzhen's industrial division of labor system, including the extensive distribution of industries, the synergy between manufacturing and service sectors, and the highly concentrated distribution of enterprises. The role of digital technology as a general-purpose technology and its impact on knowledge spillovers is also examined. The chapter concludes that competitive division of labor and knowledge spillovers have a significant impact on corporate efficiency, patent applications, R&D expenditure, and the proportion of new firms within an industry. The analysis provides valuable insights into the mechanisms driving innovation and industrial transformation in Shenzhen.
