Abstract

The article delves into the complex issue of heavy metal pollution in soils, particularly focusing on the aerobic composting process as a viable solution. It begins by examining the current status of heavy metal pollution, emphasizing the role of livestock farming and the challenges posed by improper waste management. The authors then explore the critical factors affecting the passivation of heavy metals during aerobic composting, including pH, ionic strength, and initial C/N ratio. The article also highlights the crucial detoxification processes, such as chemical passivation through humification and microbial passivation through adsorption and complexation. Furthermore, it discusses the application of aerobic composting in remediating petroleum-contaminated soils, emphasizing the synergistic effects on hydrocarbon degradation and soil improvement. The research concludes with a call for further studies to deepen our understanding of these complex processes and to develop more effective and sustainable remediation strategies.
