Abstract

The dynamics of full-scale sector gas turbine combustor flow fields are crucial for understanding flame stability and emission characteristics. This article delves into the complex interactions between swirling flows and dilution jets, highlighting the role of the central recirculation zone and the impact of heat release on flow dynamics. Advanced experimental techniques, including time-resolved particle image velocimetry and dynamic pressure measurements, are employed to capture detailed flow field data. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition is used to analyze the data, revealing dominant coherent structures and their spectral signatures. The study provides valuable insights into the hydrodynamic coupling between swirling jets and dilution jets, which is essential for designing the next generation of gas turbine combustors.
