About this book

This Brief addresses the phenomena of instability in flow boiling in microchannels occurring in high heat flux electronic cooling. A companion edition in the SpringerBrief Subseries on Thermal Engineering and Applied Science to “Critical Heat Flux in Flow Boiling in Microchannels,” and "Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop in Flow Boiling in Microchannels,"by the same author team, this volume is idea for professionals, researchers, and graduate students concerned with electronic cooling.

Frontmatter
Chapter 1. Introduction
Abstract
The subject of instability in flow boiling in microchannels is introduced in this chapter. The details of various sections are outlined.
Sujoy Kumar Saha, Gian Piero Celata
Chapter 2. Studies on Two-Phase Flow Instabilities
Abstract
In this section experimental works reported by different investigators using simultaneous flow visualization and measurement have been presented. The studies include the effect of varying heat flux and flow parameters on instabilities.
Sujoy Kumar Saha, Gian Piero Celata
Chapter 3. Instability Initiation Criterion
Abstract
A designer needs to predict the range of operating parameter within which two-phase heat exchange devices may be operated without encountering instability phenomenon and their fatal consequences. Researchers and scientists have reported their observations through simultaneous measurement and flow visualization techniques. Their suggestions regarding onset of flow instabilities are presented in this section.
Sujoy Kumar Saha, Gian Piero Celata
Chapter 4. Methods of Controlling Instabilities
Abstract
In this section, different approaches of reducing instabilities that are being advocated through experimental validation procedure have been presented. Suggestions include modification of inlet and outlet headers and channel modification.
Sujoy Kumar Saha, Gian Piero Celata
Chapter 5. Conclusion
Abstract
Instability in flow boiling in microchannels has been discussed. The state of the art review has been made. Investigations on instability in flow boiling in microchannels have been dealt with. Predictions of instability, models and analysis have been discussed in detail. This is followed by studies of boiling and instability and some parametric effects on instability. Delineation of further research has been made.
