Abstract

This chapter delves into the integration of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR) with Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector. The systematic review covers the stages of the building lifecycle where these technologies are applied, the techniques used for integration, and the limitations and future perspectives. The study reveals that AR is predominantly used in construction and operation stages, while VR is more prevalent in the design phase. MR, although less explored, shows promise in all stages. The findings highlight the need for standardized BIM formats, improved data compatibility, and enhanced collaborative capabilities to fully realize the potential of these immersive technologies in the AEC industry.
