Abstract

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is used for the internet of things, and Pervasive/Ubiquitous computing. These networks consist of intelligent nodes which sense data and forward it to the sink/destination node, and it can be used to a very dangerous area for collecting data. Energy saving is a very important concern in wireless sensor networks because of the energy limitation in nodes. This issue can be controlled by power control policies, such as routing for transmitting packets from the source node to the sink node or destination node. Recently, the mobile sink has been employed for routing to improve energy saving as well as network lifetime in WSNs. In this paper, an integration of geographic and hierarchical method with mobile sink is proposed to decrease the energy consumption and increase the network lifetime. With this method, residual energy can be increased, thereby increasing network lifetime greatly. Results of experimental simulation clearly show that the new proposed method increases network lifetime by at least 23.68% compared to other solutions.
