Abstract

The chapter delves into the integration of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to promote sustainable development in the manufacturing industry. It begins by discussing the importance of Lean principles and the growing need for environmental sustainability. The research aims to answer key questions about the motivations, methods, and benefits of integrating LCA with VSM. A systematic literature review was conducted, revealing that sustainability is the primary driver for this integration. The study identifies two main methods of integration: separate analyses and combined modeling. Benefits include improved sustainability and production performance assessment, guided decision-making, and fostering continuous improvement. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the potential of LCA-VSM integration for sustainable productivity and suggests areas for future research.
