Symmetry prior for epipolar consistency

Symmetry is a powerful concept with applications ranging from art to physics and mathematics [ 8 , 9 ]. This manuscript is concerned with symmetry in computer vision where we consider a theoretically sound yet surprisingly little known property of …

The development of non-contact user interface of a surgical navigation system based on multi-LSTM and a phantom experiment for zygomatic implant placement

Image-guided surgical navigation system (SNS) has become an incrementally effected clinical assistance tool for mini-invasive surgery. Since the concept was proposed, this technology has been rapidly developed to apply in various fields, including …

Designing and validating a PVA liver phantom with respiratory motion for needle-based interventions

Research indicated that 90% of interventional radiologists believe that reachability of the lesion is challenged by target movement due to breathing of the patient [ 1 ]. Moreover, it is indicated that liver and rib motion due to breathing is one …

A multi-subject accuracy study on granular jamming for non-invasive attachment of fiducial markers to patients

Endoscopic skull base surgery (ESBS) is increasingly favored over traditional open surgical approaches for pituitary tumor removal and other skull base procedures because it is less invasive and reduces both operative time and length of hospital …

A comparative analysis of intensity-based 2D–3D registration for intraoperative use in pedicle screw insertion surgeries

2D–3D registration of preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans and intraoperative projective images (X-rays) is an important process for quantitative position assessment of surgical objects of interest in many image-guided procedures (e.g. …

About this journal

The International Journal for Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery (IJCARS) is a peer-reviewed journal that provides a platform for closing the gap between medical and technical disciplines, and encourages interdisciplinary research and development activities in an international environment.

The focus of the journal is on Research and Development of digital imaging methods and computer-assisted diagnostic and therapeutic workflows that match and enhance the skill levels of health care professionals.

One goal of IJCARS is to provide information on new diagnostic and therapeutic processes which are facilitated by computer assisted radiology and surgery. This includes providers' experiences, patient outcomes, economic and ethical considerations, and scientific/medical validation results. It is expected that the resulting awareness by users and providers will accelerate the acceptance of CARS-supported procedures in clinical practice.
