Man Diesel & Turbo has announced the
D7 HIGH SPEED ENGINE offering outputs from 1.5 to 5 MW at rated speeds of 1000 to 2000 rpm. The D7 thus forms a transition between medium speed engines built at its Augsburg works and truck derived high speed industrial and marine engines from the Nuremberg works of MAN Truck and Bus. With a unitary displacement of around 5 l/cyl. the D7 offers an installation envelope competitive with rivals having around 4 l/cyl. while setting new power-to-weight ratio standards. Target applications include tugs, offshore vessels, patrol boats, yachts, fast ferries, power generation and rail traction. A gas version is planned.
