Abstract

The study delves into the intricate connection between interoceptive sensitivity and the perception of others' emotions, utilizing a two-stage model of emotion processing. Interoception, the sensation of internal body states, is closely tied to emotional experiences, as evidenced by brain activity in regions like the anterior right insula and ventral medial prefrontal cortex. However, direct investigations into how interoception influences emotional perception are scarce. This research fills that gap by examining the role of interoceptive sensitivity in both categorical classification and approach-avoidance responses to emotional expressions. The findings suggest that higher interoceptive sensitivity enhances the ability to perceive subtle emotions and respond appropriately, offering valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying emotional perception.
